Best Gopchang in Seoul for a Night Out With Friends
Gopchang is a group order by nature. The platters come assorted, the grill sits in the middle of the table, and the meal runs long enough that the room matters as much as the offal. For a dinner with friends in Seoul, the useful question is rarely whether the gopchang is good. It is whether four or six people can actually sit together, whether someone else handles the grilling, and whether you can get a table at all on a busy evening.
These four are the Seoul gopchang houses our notes support for exactly that, listed in the order they absorb a group: two in the Yeongdeungpo belt around Mullae and Dangsan, one in Mapo between Gongdeok and Mapo stations, and one down a Cheongdam alley. The caveats are carried over as written, loud rooms and portion complaints included, because those are the parts that decide how a gathering goes.
1. Gop Mullae Main Branch
곱 문래본점 (Gop Mullae Main Branch) is Mullae's oldest and most famous beef-offal (곱창 / gopchang) specialist, open since 2009 in the Mullae Rodeo food street, trading on same-day-slaughtered Hanwoo offal, a signature hand-made garlic gopchang, and heavy TV/Blue Ribbon exposure. It is a lively, waiting-line, after-work-and-회식 (company-dinner) kind of place rather than a quiet or refined one, and staff grill and cut the offal for you at the table.

Start here if the group includes anyone who has never ordered gopchang before. This is Mullae's oldest and most famous offal specialist, open since 2009 on the Mullae Rodeo food street, trading on same-day-slaughtered Hanwoo, and the staff grill and cut everything at your table, so nobody spends the evening working a grill instead of talking. The hand-made garlic gopchang is the one reviewers point beginners toward: a strong savory garlic hit that tames the richness, no off-smell, and the gop still packed inside. It is also reservable on Naver, a rare convenience in this category and the difference between sitting down and joining the line that forms most evenings.
- Staff grill and cut the offal for you at the table; the room is lively, after-work and company-dinner territory rather than quiet or refined.
- After-work drinks and a casual company dinner are a strong yes: the crowd is heavily post-work office workers and groups, the grilled-for-you format keeps conversation going, and beer and soju plus corkage-free bottles suit a drinking meal.
- Reviewers consistently say the garlic version has no off-smell, a strong savory garlic hit that tames the richness, and works even for gopchang beginners, with the gop still packed inside.
- Reservations are possible via Naver and reduce friction, with reserved tables arriving pre-set and a welcome card, so booking ahead is the recommended play; walk-ins should expect to queue at busy times.
Loud, smoky, and cramped when full; one 2026 review said tables were so close you could hear the next table's whole conversation. Near-permanent waiting line for walk-ins at peak times; reserve via Naver. Service quality has been reported to drop on packed Friday nights, with missed orders. Current Naver listing shows Sunday 15:00-23:30, Monday to Saturday from 16:00, and closure 9/24-9/25 for the Chuseok holiday.

2. Dangsan Wonjo Gopchang
당산원조곱창 (Dangsan Wonjo Gopchang) is a long-running beef-intestine (소곱창/gopchang) grill house near Dangsan Station, in continuous operation since 1991 and carrying a Blue Ribbon Survey listing across multiple years . It is a neighborhood institution built on tableside-grilled offal rather than décor or atmosphere, drawing office workers, regulars, and destination diners willing to wait .

The institution of the group: a beef-intestine grill house near Dangsan Station, in continuous operation since 1991 and carrying a Blue Ribbon Survey listing across multiple years, built on the offal rather than on the room. The house order is the assorted platter, pre-grilled in the kitchen and only finished briefly on your tabletop grill, which is exactly why it scales to a group order and why visitors call it a real convenience next to raw-start grilling elsewhere. The praise that repeats across posts from 2022 to mid-2026 is the absence of the offal smell that sinks lesser gopchang. Finish with the kimchi fried rice, cooked separately in a stone pot rather than in the leftover fat, and generous enough to feed more than one person.
- A casual group drinking session of four to six friends or coworkers is the core use case, repeatedly documented for after-work groups and farewell parties, with tableside pre-grilled service that scales to group orders.
- The house order is the assorted platter of gopchang, large intestine, abomasum and heart, sometimes with beef tripe, pre-grilled in the kitchen and finished briefly on the tabletop grill, which multiple visitors call a real convenience versus raw-start grilling elsewhere.
- Across posts spanning 2022 to mid-2026 the most consistent praise is the absence of the offal smell that plagues lesser gopchang; reviewers repeatedly single out no smell, fresh as the differentiator.
- The kimchi fried rice closer is consistently recommended as the finish, cooked separately in a stone pot rather than in the leftover gopchang fat, and is generous enough that one order can feed multiple diners.
Portion size relative to price draws real complaints: two independent visitors describe running short on food for the price paid. Noise is structurally loud when full, requiring raised voices; it suits drinking more than deep conversation. Published operating hours are inconsistent across sources, and the current listing shows closure 9/24-9/26 for Chuseok; confirm hours before a late or weekend visit.

3. Uwol Sogopchang Mapo Branch
우월소곱창 마포직영점 (Woual So-Gopchang Mapo Direct Branch) is a hand-made garlic beef-tripe (마늘곱창) specialist in Mapo-gu, midway between Gongdeok and Mapo stations, run as a mother-in-law/son-in-law family operation and positioned as a premium 수제마늘곱창 house rather than a standard grilled-offal joint. Multiple posts describe it as one of "Seoul's big three" garlic-gopchang destinations, a claim rooted in a 2021 TV feature and a widely-viewed YouTube segment.

A hand-made garlic beef-tripe specialist in Mapo-gu, midway between Gongdeok and Mapo stations, run as a family operation and positioned as a premium house rather than a standard grilled-offal joint. Several posts file it among what they call Seoul's big three garlic-gopchang destinations, a claim rooted in a 2021 TV feature and a widely viewed YouTube segment, so take the label for what it is. What actually recommends it for a gathering is plainer: a clean room that stays low on smoke, a group set menu documented for gatherings, and a comped garlic-marinated raw beef starter that turns up at essentially every table. Leave room for the five-color fried rice at the end.
- Comped starters are unusually generous and near-universal: garlic-marinated raw beef appears at every table across most visits.
- The closing five-color fried rice is called out as a must-not-skip finisher, both for volume and presentation.
- A clean, low-smoke room, with a group set menu documented for gatherings.
Booking risk: the Naver booking page notes reservations after 6pm may be cancelled due to early closing, so lock an earlier slot and confirm by phone. A material portion of the Naver blog evidence is sponsored or comped, which caps how much weight the uniformly positive tone should carry. Business hours and phone number are inconsistent between 2024 and January 2026 sources; verify current hours before booking.

4. Samseong Weonjjo Yanggopcchang
삼성원조양곱창 (Samseong Wonjo Yanggopchang) is a decades-old, no-frills grilled beef-intestine (양곱창) joint tucked in an alley near Cheongdam station exit 14, best known as the reputed regular haunt of BIGBANG's GD and for a 수요미식회 (Wednesday Food Talk) TV feature that cemented its fame in Gangnam .
133-6 Cheongdam-dong, Gangnam District, Seoul, South Korea | $$ | korean
The smallest room here and the strongest sense of place: a decades-old, no-frills grilled beef-intestine joint down an alley near Cheongdam station exit 14, known as the reputed regular haunt of BIGBANG's GD and fixed in Gangnam memory by a Wednesday Food Talk feature. Reviewers across a decade describe the same plate: full of the fatty lining, well cleaned, no off odor, crispy outside and moist inside, with the fried rice finished on the same griddle at the end. Party size is the real variable. Two or three is the most commonly reported group and the size this room serves comfortably, while six is workable but not guaranteed. Come small, or come with a plan.
- Reviewers across a decade consistently describe it as full of the fatty lining, well cleaned with no off odor, crispy outside and moist inside.
- Small friend groups of two or three are the most commonly reported party size across the corpus, comfortable and well served.
- A group of six is workable but not guaranteed: one party of six was seated only by claiming two tables near the door on a lucky night, so it is a real risk for larger parties without advance planning.
Genuinely cramped; uncomfortable for larger-framed guests or any group above 4 without advance planning. Portion-for-price is the most consistent structural complaint, independently raised in 2016, 2023, and July 2026. No reservations per past reports and a tiny room, so peak hours carry real wait risk; 볶음밥 quantity must be decided upfront and cannot be reordered mid-meal. Open Monday to Friday 16:00-23:00 and closed Sundays per current listings, with closure 9/25-9/26 for Chuseok.

One timing note before anyone books. The Chuseok holiday falls this week, and current listings show Gop Mullae closed 9/24 to 9/25, Dangsan Wonjo Gopchang closed 9/24 to 9/26, and Samseong Weonjjo Yanggopcchang closed Sundays plus 9/25 to 9/26, while the Mapo garlic-gopchang house lists holiday hours as open. All four are otherwise confirmed operating as of this week.
Whichever way the group leans, book through Naver where it is accepted. Walk-ins at peak evening hours mean a queue almost everywhere in this category, and a queue is a poor way to open a long dinner.
