Where to Eat in SF Late on a Weeknight
The hard part of eating late in San Francisco on a weeknight is not finding food, it is finding a kitchen that is still actually cooking after 10 PM. Plenty of places post generous hours and then wave you off the moment the dinner rush thins out.
These four are the exceptions: casual, unfussy rooms that keep serving well past the point most kitchens close, spread across the Mission and the Lower Nob Hill and Tenderloin edge. We have assumed a relaxed, post-10 PM weeknight dinner. If you want something more formal, a specific cuisine, or a particular neighborhood, we can narrow it down.
1. Taquería El Farolito
Taquería El Farolito is a cash-only, counter-service Mission taquería open since 1983, built around Mission-style super burritos and a late-night crowd. The Infatuation calls it "the undisputed champion of the town-wide taqueria show" and scores it 9.3, a Top 25 SF spot. A 2025 aggregator profile frames it the same way: a busy, no-frills, affordable Mexican eatery and late-night joint for tacos and burritos.
2779 Mission St, San Francisco, CA 94110, USA | $ | burrito, mexican
The default answer to a late Mission craving. El Farolito has been turning out Mission-style super burritos and quesadillas since 1983, and it keeps going until 2:45 AM on weeknights, later still on weekends. Order the super burrito with carne asada, the consensus pick, and do not be scared off by the line: it moves fast even when it reaches the door.
- Open until 2:45 AM most nights, 3:45 AM Friday and Saturday
- The super burrito with carne asada is the consensus best order: tender steak, fillings in ideal ratio
- The line moves fast; one reviewer had a full order in about 10 minutes even with it out the door
Cash only; there is an ATM on-site. Seating is small and limited; this is primarily a counter-service, takeout-oriented spot. The room gets loud and chaotic late night.

2. Tadka Indian Restaurant
Tadka Indian Restaurant is a Mission District Indian kitchen-plus-sports-bar at 3066 24th St that also sells Indian-topped pizza, open daily 3pm to 2am for dine-in, takeout, and delivery.
3066 24th St, San Francisco, CA 94110, USA | bar, family, indian, north_indian, pizza, vegetarian
Tadka is the Mission's late-night Indian option, a curry kitchen crossed with a sports bar on 24th Street that keeps the tandoor going until 2 AM daily. Come for the butter chicken, chicken tikka masala, and garlic naan; the TVs and the casual room are part of the deal.
- Hours run 3pm to 2am daily, consistent across official data and the Nextdoor listing
- Butter chicken and chicken tikka masala are the consistent standouts
- Reviewers value the late hours; dishes come out quickly even before the 2am close
The room has TVs and a sports-bar identity, so it is not suited for a quiet or intimate dinner. Street parking in the Mission is reported as difficult during the daytime. The pizza menu is consistently rated as merely adequate; stick to curries and tandoor items.

3. Wen's Kitchen
Wen's Kitchen is a casual, counter-service Chinese restaurant on Polk St (Lower Nob Hill and Civic Center-UN Plaza border) best known for staying open until 1am nightly and for QR-code table ordering rather than traditional waited service. It was formerly branded "Wing Lum Cafe," a name several longtime reviewers still use interchangeably with "Wen's Kitchen."
1150 Polk St, San Francisco, CA 94109, USA | $ | chinese
Wen's Kitchen, which some regulars still call Wing Lum Cafe, is a casual, counter-service Chinese spot on Polk Street that runs until 1 AM every night. That makes it a practical stop near the Civic Center after most kitchens have wound down. The honey walnut shrimp, fried rice, and Szechuan noodle soup are the dishes to build an order around, and portions are generous enough to share.
- Dinner runs 5:30pm to 1:00am every day; lunch is offered only Monday through Friday
- Honey walnut shrimp, fried rice, and Szechuan noodle soup are the recurring standouts
- Portions are family-style; one dish comfortably feeds two
Ordering is QR-code based at the table with payment through your phone; there is minimal traditional table service. Quality and service are reported as inconsistent; some recent reviews describe ownership turnover and decline. Delivery quality has been reported as notably worse than dine-in.

4. Wanjai Restaurant & Bar
Wanjai Restaurant & Bar is a small, recently opened Northern Thai restaurant and bar in San Francisco's Lower Nob Hill and Tenderloin border, built around a Khao Soi-centric dinner menu and Thai-inspired desserts and specialty drinks. One early reviewer explicitly frames it as a new opening ("I know the place just opened up") that has quickly built a loyal following among Thai-food seekers.
678 Geary St, San Francisco, CA 94102, USA | $$ | bar, dessert, thai
For a late weeknight that wants something more composed than a counter and a napkin, Wanjai is a small Northern Thai room on the Lower Nob Hill border, open until 11 (or 11:30) every night. The kitchen is built around Khao Soi, the coconut curry noodle soup that is the reason to come, and the mango sticky rice is the dessert people keep insisting on.
- Open until 11:00 PM or 11:30 PM daily (sources differ by 30 minutes)
- Khao Soi is the signature dish: a decadent, coconutty, well-spiced curry broth
- Mango sticky rice is repeatedly singled out as a must-order dessert
The space is small and fills quickly; it can get loud and dense once crowded. Hours are inconsistent across sources (5:00 PM to 11:30 PM on Yelp versus 5:30 PM to 11:00 PM on Toast). The restaurant occasionally closes for private events on short notice.

Hours drift, especially late, and a few of these rooms get loud or fill up fast once the night crowd arrives. Check the caveats before you commit, and when in doubt, call ahead.
