4 Gwanghwamun Restaurants for a Seoul Business Lunch

A business lunch in Gwanghwamun has a short list of requirements, and the food is not the first one. You need a room where the conversation stays at your table, a kitchen that can put the meal down before the hour is gone, and an address close enough to the office towers that nobody spends the walk apologizing for it.

The four restaurants below are all in or immediately adjacent to Gwanghwamun, and all four are explicitly suited to business meals in our research notes. They cover most of what a working week asks for: a proven office standby with private rooms, a lighter Italian option with parking, a quiet Chinese course room, and a premium hanwoo grill for the occasions that call for one.

Where the evidence is thin, where the room carries a minimum spend, or where the online enthusiasm reads as promotional, the card says so plainly. Rooms, pricing, and parking are the three things worth confirming before you send the invitation.

1. Sinseung-Gwan

Sinseung-Gwan is a 60-year-old, third-generation (since 1964) traditional Chinese restaurant on the 2nd floor of the Lemeillieur (르메이에르) building in Jongno, between Jonggak and Gwanghwamun stations, known for its house-made "bichwi" (jade/spinach-batter) sweet-and-sour pork and a large room-and-hall layout aimed at office lunches, banquets, and family gatherings. Reviewers consistently frame it as a scratch-cooking "재료에 진심" (serious-about-ingredients) operation: 48-hour cold-aged hand-kneaded noodles, dawn-market onions, house-fried chunjang and chili oil, all sauces made in-house.

Start with the safe one. Sinseung-Gwan is third generation and 60 years old, open since 1964 on the second floor of the Lemeillieur building in Jongno, between Jonggak and Gwanghwamun stations. Reviewers call it a 광화문 직장인 맛집 outright, and the floor plan backs the label up: roughly six private rooms, from two-to-four seaters up to a large eight-to-ten person room, with group seating advertised as far as 35 people. The hall is spacious enough to talk across, and the rooms are there when you would rather not. The kitchen is a scratch operation, with 48-hour cold-aged hand-kneaded noodles, dawn-market onions, house-fried chunjang and chili oil, and sauces made in house. Order the bichwi tangsuyuk, the jade sweet-and-sour pork everyone agrees is the signature, crisp outside and tender inside even when sauced.

  • Described outright as a 광화문 직장인 맛집, with frequent office gatherings, six private rooms, and course menus.
  • The bichwi tangsuyuk (jade sweet-and-sour pork) is the unanimous signature, crisp outside and tender inside even when sauced.
  • Roughly six private rooms, from 2-4 person rooms to a large 8-10 person room, with group seating advertised up to 35 people.

Weekday evenings can be bustling and loud in the hall; book a private room for quieter conversation. Weekend hours vary by source; verify opening time before visiting.

2. 더키친 일뽀르노 광화문점

The Kitchen Il Forno Gwanghwamun (더키친 일뽀르노 광화문점) is a Southern-Italian, wood-fired-pizza-anchored restaurant on the ground floor of Somerset Palace Seoul, run as an "Italian semi-buffet + one chosen main" concept near Anguk/Gwanghwamun . It was formerly branded The Kitchen Salvatore before rebranding to Il Forno, and now leans on a Naples-trained kitchen and the hotel's convenient parking to pull in office-worker lunches, small parties, and casual dates .

The practical choice when the group is small and the clock is real. It occupies the ground floor of Somerset Palace Seoul near Anguk and Gwanghwamun, and the format does most of the work: an Italian semi-buffet plus one chosen main, which spares the table a long ordering negotiation. It is used explicitly for weekday business lunches and small work gatherings, with group tables and a room that seats four to ten. The wood-fired pizza is the headline, out of a Naples-trained kitchen whose head chef placed second at the APN World Pizza Championship in Naples. The other advantage is unglamorous and genuinely useful: the hotel garage gives you the first three hours free, which in parking-scarce Gwanghwamun counts for a lot. It carried The Kitchen Salvatore name before the Il Forno rebrand.

  • Explicitly used for weekday business lunches and small work gatherings (미니회식), with group tables, a 4-10 person room, and a value semi-buffet format.
  • The wood-fired pizza is the kitchen's headline, with the head chef placing 2nd at the APN World Pizza Championship in Naples.
  • The Somerset Palace garage offers the first 3 hours free, a genuine differentiator in parking-scarce Gwanghwamun.

The semi-buffet is intentionally compact in variety; not suited for those expecting a full grand buffet. Weekday lunches fill with office workers; reservations are recommended. Google aggregate rating (~3.9) suggests some dinner service inconsistencies.

3. 몽중헌 광화문점

몽중헌 광화문점 (Mongjungheon Gwanghwamun) is a Chinese course-dining restaurant on the 2nd floor of the Centerpoint Gwanghwamun building, recently opened as a successor location after the brand's long-running Anguk branch closed . It positions itself around private-room course meals for dates, family gatherings, and business-adjacent occasions rather than casual walk-in dining .

The quiet one. Mongjungheon's Gwanghwamun branch sits on the second floor of the Centerpoint Gwanghwamun building, opened as the successor to the brand's long-running Anguk location, and it is organized around private-room course meals rather than casual walk-in dining: dates, family gatherings, and business-adjacent occasions. One reviewer puts it plainly, calling the room setup well suited to gatherings and important occasions. Out of an eight-course set, the 황지향기린구, a shrimp dumpling in a crispy fried shell, was the dish that stuck, and the black-vinegar seared tenderloin is the other standout. Underground parking is described as ample. Book it knowing the branch is new and the record behind it is still short.

  • Positioned around private-room course meals for dates, family gatherings, and business-adjacent occasions.
  • A reviewer explicitly calls the room setup well suited to gatherings and important occasions.
  • The 황지향기린구 (shrimp dumpling with a crispy fried shell) is singled out as the most memorable item of an 8-course set.

Our notes on this branch are thin (only two reviews), so post-opening stability is not yet proven. Room seating requires a course-menu order and carries a roughly two-hour time cap on weekends. Our notes carry no evidence about à la carte-only dining or specific lunch service.

4. 서래미소 광화문점

서래미소 광화문점 is a premium hanwoo (Korean beef) grill in Tongui-dong by Gyeongbokgung/Seochon, occupying floors 3 to 5 (plus an upper-floor terrace/rooftop) of a standalone building and dealing almost exclusively in top-grade 1++ No.9 beef that staff grill tableside; it is the Gwanghwamun branch of the Seorae (Seorae-maeul/Bangbae) name . It is positioned as an occasion venue for business dinners, family gatherings, 상견례, dates, and group rentals, dressed up with Dior plates and Hermès glassware .

South Korea, Seoul, Jongno District, 3층 | korean

For the meal that is itself the message. The Gwanghwamun branch of the Seorae name takes floors three through five of a standalone building in Tongui-dong by Gyeongbokgung and Seochon, with a terrace and rooftop above, and deals almost exclusively in top-grade 1++ No.9 hanwoo. Staff grill each cut tableside to your preferred doneness, which is the real argument for it here: nobody is working the tongs while trying to hold a conversation. Roughly twelve private rooms shield that conversation, and the table is set with Dior plates and Hermès glassware. It is named explicitly as a Gwanghwamun 회식 pick. It is also the one place on this list where the caveats deserve a careful read before you book.

  • Explicitly called a Gwanghwamun 회식 pick, with private rooms that shield conversation and tableside grilling that frees the table.
  • Top-grade 1++ No.9 hanwoo, with staff grilling each cut tableside to the doneness you prefer.
  • Dior plates and Hermès glassware, roughly 12 private rooms, plus a terrace and rooftop on the upper floors.

Premium pricing: rooms have minimum spends (₩200,000 for 4-person room, scaling up to ₩1.5M for rooftop). On-site parking is tight (only 4-6 spaces). Much of the online enthusiasm reads as promotional; independent reviews are thinner and one lukewarm review found the beef not clearly superior to cheaper Gwanghwamun peers.

Two of these are ordinary-Tuesday restaurants and two are occasions. Sinseung-Gwan is the safest classic office lunch with private rooms, and The Kitchen Il Forno is the practical one when you want lunch lighter, faster, and with somewhere to park. Mongjungheon is the plausible pick for a quieter, more formal Chinese course, though it is the newest name here. Seoraemiso fits when you want a premium impression meal built on Korean beef, provided you accept the pricing that comes with it.

Whatever you choose, confirm the room when you book. The room is usually the whole reason you picked the place.
